mario-2008 I Didnt Knew If I Would Make It!Unbelievable, but this short haired guy on this picture is me precisely one year ago. It’s taken of my ‘Happy 2008′ video I published on Viddler. Even though my positive behavior I remember that I was shaking deep inside, because I knew there where some challenges ahead I wasn’t sure I could take. My situation was on the edge, because I was waiting for my tenants to leave. Even though they were a guarantee that I could pay my mortage I decided to say good bye to them. Because I knew that I wouldn’t get a monthly paycheck until the end of the year, I knew I had to build my own business and use all my creativity to face those challenges.
To be honest, while I was doing all the best wishes to my fellows of NaNoWriMo, Viddler and Twitter, I was afraid that I wouldn’t get the chance to do so one year later. (more…)

wednesday-movie-review August RushAre you one of these people who always saying: ‘Oh, but this movie isn’t realistic. This can’t happen in the real world.’ If so, I’ll give you a tip: sell your TV and home cinema system on eBay. No, I am not trying to insult you, it’s just a good opener for this weeks review, because I recently saw a fairy tale mixed up in a 112 minutes music video masterpiece.

Come on, it’s Christmas, don’t be realistic and sit down, cuddling with your spouse without breaking the remote control by sitting on it and enjoy this movie. The plot is as warm as your cacao and comes right out of fairy tale tellers heart.

August Rush tells the story of two young musicians. The guitarist and singer of a rock band and the talented young cellist. They have just one romantic encounter at Washington Square in New York. The legacy of this night is a baby boy without the fathers knowing. The father of the woman makes her believe that she lost the baby when she has an accident. But baby Evan isn’t dead.
At the age of 11 orphaned Evan finds shelter by a stranger who is trying to earn money with the immense musical talent the boy has. One day he gives him the artist name August Rush, what makes him not easier to find for his mother…

Merry Christmas!

You see? Just asking people for doing you a favor is effective. There are people around you everywhere who will love to help you get on track to your goals. All over the world. Just dare to ask like I did a couple of days ago.

Wednesday evening I told a friend what I was up to as described in my post Help Me Become A Corpse. As we live in the Netherlands where people tend to be that down to earth, I thought he would say something like: ‘Yes right. Uhm, don’t you think you are wasting your time with this?’ and then drinking his beer and turning away from me. But he didn’t. Instead he said: (more…)

I think besides the ‘Write or Die’ tool one of the best things I’ve done zo far is not to calculate. Because when I calculate how much words I have to write every single day until I meet the 50k goal on November the 30th, I kind of paralize. It’s demotivating. Instead of this I just write as much as I can. Lucky for me in this case is the fact that here is not that much to do. You see, in New York you have more distractions. Distractions in a nice way, don’t misunderstand me. There is always something more important or more interessting to do. That is what I’ve seen.

In one way or the other the tool that all NaNo’s are talking about has made a computergame out of my NaNo-novel. Why? Easy to explain: I always choose to write 400 words in just ten minutes and sometimes I get it and more often I don’t, but it’s a funny challange to do it this way. This is much more spellbinding than playing Pacman online and it has much more result. Most of the time I come above the 350 or near the 350 in ten minutes and I just try it over and over again. If you do this ten times a day, you have spent 100 minutes, what is 1 hour and 40 minutes (the length of a movie), writing your novel. This is not that much time but in the end you have managed to write at least 3500 words. This makes in 10 day’s 35000 words. In other words: it is doable for everyone. Savvy? I am not a magican who can do this. Look at Gamwyn, SantJoi and JustJason who are already reached the 50k mark in the first two weeks of NaNoWriMo 2008.

Alas, tommorrow it will take a little longer before I am able to start writing, because I have an appointment that I already postponed one time and I can’t stay postponing it.

I hope all the participants are staying motivated. Let’s see what the next days bring.

See you soon!

Mario

P.S.: I seriously consider to use the tool for writing my posts.
