Street Photography With Flash? Very Bold!

Doing street photography with your speedlite is kind of bold.

In todays video and this post I want to change some thoughts with you about that.

As you could see in the video above I had two subjects that were willing to pose for me. The police officer did it in a way that it still looked candid and the girl promoting the Chicago musical really posed for the camera.

You see, the problem that can occur if you use your speedlite whilst doing sneaky street photography are:

  • It’s hard do do it sneaky at all
  • There are people who can get offended by this obvious action
  • Due to the above in the most cases your images will not look candid anymore

Is there a way to prevent this from happening?

Yes, there is. If you for example shoot a performing street artist with your flash the audience will not be aware of the fact that you are photographing their reactions on the performance.

In this case I use flash without a second thought and I never got any problem with that.
