Recently on a casual shoot Pedro and I got asked what we are wearing around in our camera bags. Here’s what’s in my bag.
No matter what camera you have, if you haven’t buckets full of patience and the will to fail several times the chance to shoot a photograph like this will not be that huge.

I like to shoot details especially when people are involved in it in any way. I took this one of a street artist in action near the dome in Aachen (Germany) and loved to see the art emerge.

Especially if you’re just starting out you don’t have an arsenal of gear to work with. Let’s face it: good glass and a camera body isn’t cheap in the first place. (Notice that I mention glass first for a good reason)
If your budget doesn’t allows you to buy an external flash right from the spot and deep in your heart you know that you rather wouldn’t use the pop-up flash of your camera here is a way to make it a lot more bearable.
Talking about BEARable: you hear me say beer instead of bear in the video as there is some wishful thinking involved obviously.
Capturing just that fraction of a second makes your photo tell the story.
Pedro Hamers did just that when he was shooting this very happy and friendly dog. Just by hitting the shutter button at the moment this dog was focused on something a step below him gives this image a totally different expression.
