In this short video tutorial I show you how you can use a 3D-object in Manga Studio to draw a hand:
There are of course hundreds of objects I could have chosen from but as drawing hands is one of the most discussed items I thought it would be good to solve this problem as well.
Some people are totally against tracing. In many forums and on many websites I read that it is absolutely not done. Artists complain that you learn nothing from doing it.
Though I understand that they don’t recommend doing it as you could be tempted to do it all the time, I think about it different:
As you trace you train your eye and hand coordination. You get a feeling for the lines. Where they should be and where they shouldn’t. With every drawing your brain keeps a record of it that will remind you to do it the right way. If you want to know more about this human mind stuff, feel free to visit the page in the menu above and read some of the post from the category human mind.
Even a great artist like John Buscema (Marvel) traced Superman and learned a lot. He could draw him in every imaginable position without thinking. I think that after a while you will be faster drawing hands by yourself than loading and lining out the 3D object. For the purpose of practicing, this objects are enormous valuable.
Have fun drawing!
Hi Mario,
I admire your patience!
Thank you,
Zuzanna
