Today I decided to start and broadcast a series of videos where I want to share with you some of the weird things that are going on here in the Netherlands. As you can see in this first video I didn’t know how to name this series when I started recording. Please don’t let you distract by the picture above, I found it when I was looking for background pictures for the weird tax thing I share with you today. Maybe I’m using it as a header for this series but I’m not sure yet.
Please have mercy as I work without a script and still not on a native English level. I’m sure I will make progress during the process of making more videos. I’m a learning-by-doing-guy.

Mario, I loved this video! You are a born announcer and public speaker. Your tone was lovely, the way you spoke very clear. It was just right, perfect.
I don’t know if there is anything like this in the U.S., but I doubt it. The IRS is like a dog with a bone, it doesn’t let go until it gets its money. At the same time, we all know that in every country, those who make it their mission in life not to pay taxes, find a way to avoid them.
But I don’t think there is any such thing here as being “erased” from the database. Also, here in the U.S. if you don’t pay Social Security, then you are invisible to the pension plan. So when you get old, if you need a pension and medical care, you will not exist. So I don’t think it’s desirable to be invisible to the taxes. You told me that in the Netherlands your old-age pension is not tied to the taxes. Perhaps that is what they should change. You get out what you put in. If you put in nothing, you get out nothing.
