Creepy Self Hypnosis!

Maybe we have briefly to define first what is meant with self hypnosis. Duh, of course it means hypnotizing yourself. The question is if it matters if you listen to a recording of someone else or to a recording you made based on a script especially for you. I think it doesn’t really matter but for the ease of writing this post, I assume that it’s more self hypnosis if you use your own script and your own recording.

As I’m used to listen to hypnosis sessions in the English language, I recorded my own one in English, though I’m far from native. Just because I have to laugh when I hear it in Dutch. I remember that I once listened for a couple of seconds to a Belgian recording and was rolling over the floor with laughter. Of course this isn’t bad at all, as laughing is a very healthy exercise.

When I became more interested in hypnosis, the following step was to read about it and try something out. I see myself as a responsible person and so I decided that I have to be my own guinea pig to make sure that no harm will be done to anybody else. In the past I always heard of and got interested in regression under hypnosis. I always wanted to know if I was Al Capone or any other guy from history in an earlier life. It seemed a lot of fun to see me finally fleeing from a herd of raging elephants in stead of smuggling whiskey during the times of prohibition.

So when I got prepared to hypnotize myself for the first time, I decided that it had to be a current life regression. That means that you go back in your current life and not going over the borders to a past life. For a beginner this seemed just safer to me and on the other hand it could be a good proof if this regression thing is working at all.

When I first recorded the script I wrote, it felt a little funny. I had to laugh and start again, because I was thinking: Hey, I know what I’m going to say, why listening to something I already know? Of course this is balderdash as it doesn’t matter what I pick up with my conscious mind. What we want to trigger with this is the unconscious mind. To make it more comfortable to listen to it I added a little echo over my voice with an audio software.

The next question is of course: did it work?

The answer is quite simple:

Oh my gosh, it worked too good for me. It was creepy and when I woke myself up I decided not to do it again. I don’t mean the whole self hypnosis stuff but the whole regression thing. In fact there is nothing wrong with it, but I never had a more unpleasant experience since I use hypnosis.

What was so weird? I could say that it just didn’t felt good. (<–period) But this wouldn’t be enough. In 1987 I had this encounter with this girl and I could have sworn that I remembered every little bit of it until the day of today. What happened during this regression session? I saw her, I felt and heard her and then there was the thing she whispered in my ear. Not that I’ve had forgotten this, but I did not thought about it ever since and there it was suddenly and unexpected and that made it creepy for me. The only positive thing was that I had proof that the hypnosis really triggered my unconscious mind and that this regression stuff worked as well.

My conclusion:

  • Self hypnosis works well.
  • Be careful with regression, whether current or past life.
  • I can’t advice to start self hypnosis with any regression involved.
  • I can advice to start self hypnosis for the purpose of relaxation before going any deeper.

Do you have any experience with self hypnosis? Please share it with us.

Bless you,

Mario

    Hello Mario,

I was not sure if I shall laugh from the article or the laughter that you had from doing this session of hypnotherapy. This is a very good post how to hypnotize you. Thank you for sharing!

    It was fun to read,
